More About Las Lilas School

Our Story

Las Lilas School, founded in July 2005, is the first Spanish language school established in Singapore to be exclusively devoted to the teaching of Spanish and the dissemination of the cultures associated. We have been accredited by Instituto Cervantes since 2007; this means we meet the conditions set by the Instituto Cervantes Accreditation System for Centres, the only international accreditation exclusively focused on the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. Being the only centre accredited by the Cervantes Institute in South East Asia, ensures that our school fulfils the strictest quality requirements, guarantee effective teaching rendered with utmost professionalism by highly qualified and experienced native speakers and the only centre in Singapore authorized to run the official Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) examinations.

With a curriculum that is carefully designed according to the CEFR for Languages, our sessions encompass a balance of conversation, listening, pronunciation and grammar, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the learning of the language. In addition to the course work, students are engaged in a variety of activities such as reading magazines and newspaper articles, watching excerpts from Spanish films and news clips, as well as participating in online events that will enable students to “live the culture”. At the same time, we make special effort to incorporate blended learning; something crucially important when aiming at mastering a language; by introducing our students to Las Lilas Campus Virtual – an online platform where they can find academic contents, extra activities and support sections to facilitate independent learning and better aid students, out of our classrooms.

Our Courses

Las Lilas offers an extensive range of Spanish language courses – from customized or mainstream, to corporate services and workshops for individuals and groups of all ages.

DELE Exams

The Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), issued by Instituto Cervantes, on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, are the only official accreditations of the degree of mastery in the Spanish language to non-native Spanish Speakers.

Exams are held in Las Lilas School twice a year - every May and November. Las Lilas, apart from being the only examination centre in Singapore, can help you prepare for this examination through specialized DELE courses.

I'm really amazed by this school! I previously took classes in another school in Singapore (which couldn't get enough students to organize a second module). Therefore I decided to transfer to Las Lilas which had great ratings. Materials are great and teachers are nice, dynamic and engaging. I started on A1.2 and could feel that the students are more motivated than my prev school and have a better level (probably more motivated too). I took a placement test and talked to few teachers who all were welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. Bit pricier but I pay for the quality I think. Highly recommended if you're serious about Spanish! :)

The progress/flow of the classes in general are alright. The material given is useful and some fun activities were injected into the class for better practise and fun. Teacher's explanations are clear & concise and her examples are relevant. Maybe the course can the stuctured into 4 sections like: listening, written, oral, games etc.

We got lots of opportunities to practice speaking. The teacher was able to explain in both English and Spanish. I suggest to extend the tenure of each module so there in less time wasted waiting for the next class.

The thing I like most is able to learn quickly and from native speakers. The syllabus was structured and the teacher was able to explain the language without resorting to English, allowing us to be familiar with instructions and common expressions. I would suggest more assignments to practice and more interactive sessions for short periods.

I love the freedom we have in class, the debates, discussion and interactions. What's very important for us advanced learners is that practice should always come first. We practice speaking almost 99% of the class.

A great place to learn with great teachers! Classes are always fun and are taught at a pace manageable even for those learning while working, like I am (but we still have to practice!). The courses are also very well structured which is useful for those intending to eventually get certification in Spanish. For coffee lovers there is a Nespresso machine available should you need that boost before class :)

I have completed my Beginner 1 & 2 classes and currently taking Elementary 1 class with Las Lilas.. I have always wanted to learn Spanish but was afraid that I am not able to enjoy while learning it. Las Lilas proves me wrong. The courses and lessons prepared and presented by the Teachers are really interesting. Each class will consist not more than 12 students which I find it appropriate as the Teacher can concentrate better with the progress of the students. The lessons are planned in such simple yet interesting ways, awesome and fun teaching approach which allow the students to get involve whole-heartedly. The lessons allow us to be able to understand Spanish in an easy and full of fun way of learning. The teaching materials allow students to read, write and recite in Spanish. Apart from the textbook and exercise books, 2 CDs and handouts were provided as well. The teachers make the lessons even more interesting by introducing Spanish songs, Video clips of Spain and even share some Spanish food with us. The Teachers are very friendly, helpful and patient towards all the students. The Director of Las Lilas is also a very affectionate lady who listens to the students´ suggestions and arranged schedules of the lessons accordingly. As some of the students are working adults, the school allows students to have make-up classes should they miss any specific lessons due to their work. With the easy-to-understand teaching materials and the patient and helpful Teachers Las Lilas has, I am definitely going to learn my Spanish all the way from Beginner class to Proficiency class. Kudos to Las Lilas.

Spanish - Beginners

I've taken Spanish classes with Las Lilas for 6 group courses since Beginner 1, over the last 2-3 years. Been taught by a whole lot of their teachers in that time, and they are almost uniformly excellent. They're fun, enthusiastic, patient, native speakers, and bring to the classroom not only knowledge of the language but also eagerness to share about Spain and all things Spanish. In class, students are engaged to speak Spanish as much as possible to each other and with the teacher, which is very useful in learning the language. Interaction also makes classes very fun and enjoyable (hence me continuing with the courses one after another!) My only issue is that sometimes the course does progress slowly, and occasionally a group activity isn’t the most useful. Also, some topics are repeated in subsequent levels/lessons. However these might be subjective. Depending on the student's level of experience and inclination to revise, revision/a slower pace may actually be preferred. In conclusion, while the group courses are not intensive, they serve their purpose very well. Las Lilas teaches Spanish effectively and extremely enjoyably, at a relaxed pace. (I believe other options are available at Las Lilas for those who need to crash-course Spanish for various reasons.)
